Weekday Masses. |
| Fr. Tom and Deacon Miller have been working for some time to find a way to add a weeknight Mass to the parish liturgy schedule. Beginning August 22, 2000; Mass will be celebrated at the parish each Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. The schedule will be modified during weeks with Holy Days, penance services, no available priest, etc. Please check the bulletin or call the church office 253-863-2253 if there is any question. |
National Association of
Pastoral Musicians [NPM]
2000 Convention |
| SS. Cosmas and Damian musicians recently had the opportunity of attending the National Association of Pastoral Musicians Region IV convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Convention meetings were held at the Luxor hotel. The larger Convention events took place at the Shrine of the Holy Redeemer and Christ the King parish (pictured above). Those attending from our parish were Cathy Cosby, Marianne and Bob Smith, Fr. Tom, and Mark Petersen. Some of the workshops attended were: "Ministry of the Cantor," "Making Principle Pieces of Liturgy Work in a Church of the New Millennium," and "The New Sacramentary." |

2000 Outdoor Mass and Picnic |
Thanks to everyone in the parish who helped make our annual Outdoor Mass and Picnic a success! Fr. Tom used his "connections" to keep the sun out of our eyes right up until the Final Blessing--then the sun came out right on cue to warm the remainder of the day's festivities. We're wondering what "miracle" he will enact next year! |
150th Anniversary of the Archdiocese of Seattle |
Several members of the SS. Cosmas and Damian choir volunteered their time and talents to the Archdiocese of Seattle's 150th Anniversary celebration. Lynette Raden, Krista Schwallie, Marianne Smith, Benjamin Petersen and Mark Petersen sang in the 300+ voice Archdiocesan Choir under the direction of Michael Connolly. The Anniversary Liturgy was held May 20, 2000 at St. Martin's College in Lacey. |
| The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 |
The Great Jubilee which leads us into the third millennium of the reign of Christ is scheduled to begin in Rome on Christmas eve 1999 and end on Epiphany, January 6, 2001. The Church's vision for the Jubilee is contained in John Paul II's Apostolic Letter, Tertio Millennio Adveniente (On the Coming of the Third Millennium) and in his Incarnationis Mysterium (Bull of Indiction of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000). These messages reflect our past history and our hope for the future. "In view of this, the 2000 years which have passed since the Birth of Christ represent an extraordinarily great Jubilee [an outward jubilation of joy], not only for Christians but indirectly for the whole of humanity, given the prominent role played by Christianity during these two millennia" (TMA 15). The Jubilee year, a great anniversary of Christianity, is a time to "let faith be refreshed, let hope increase and let charity exert itself still more" (IM, 11).

SS. Cosmas and Damian Choir performs at the 1998 Festival of Trees |
The SS. Cosmas and Damian choir was honored to be selected to perform at the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital 12th annual "Festival of Trees" on December 5, 1998. Funds raised at the festival benefit the patients at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. The event, held each year in the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, has become a seasonal favorite for thousands of people in the Northwest. The choir's performance was outstanding--they represented the parish well and supported a worthy cause! |
