Anthropomorphic Illusions in the Human-Computer Interface

This article proposes to take a bit of a ramble, to take the long way around the problem of anthropomorphic illusions in human-computer interfaces. In fact, it is my hope to 'encompass' the problem. Experimenting with RedHat, Alpha and Wizardry

Thoughts on MS Certifications and Learning Linux

I've been pondering over questions I have been asked lately about the importance of getting Microsoft certification in today’s job market, but about certifications, I am of two minds. They do seem justified in an industry where many of the most talented lack advanced degrees. They're just trying to make sure that people know how to do what they say they know how to do. The Linux community has been very concerned about establishing a certification body, and there are trainings and exams being put into place. About NT and Win2K, there's a jillion certificates and MS is probably making more money training and testing people than they get off the software. By the way, I just did a couple of Win98 installations (one on my machine so I can use my CD-ROM programs for Windows), and I just gotta say it's a kludge. I've been spoiled by the last 6 months with Linux only. Still the job market is the important consideration and there are a lot of NT boxes at companies that pay real money.
